“What do we carry with us—
across generations,
across space,
across time?”
I’m Damen Kirch, a science fiction author exploring fractured legacies, distant futures, and the gravity of family—both found and lost.
The Origins of a Sci-Fi Mindset
I grew up immersed in 1960s–70s science fiction—Lost in Space, Star Trek, and every paperback I could find. But it wasn’t the tech that hooked me—it was the people, the purpose, and the quiet weight of their journeys. I’ve always asked, “How did we get here?”
When I stumbled across Harry Harrison’s Stainless Steel Rat series, I was gone. Those worlds were wild, full of misfits and rebels, and somehow—deeply human. That tone still echoes through what I write today.
- Characters who are trying to rebuild what they’ve lost
- Strangers who become kin
- Worlds that reflect our own fractures
My Themes: Grit, Memory, and the Pull of Family
Whether I’m writing near-future dystopias or space operas, my fiction explores how people carry history with them—through technology, through silence, through the choices they inherit and the ones they make.
The Earth Exodus Saga
My current series follows Astra North, a pilot carrying a secret she doesn’t fully understand. Set in a fragmented universe where memory is power and family is both weapon and wound, this saga explores what it means to lose your origin—and fight for something worth rebuilding.
